Step inside Boatwright’s and you’re in a cavernous Louisiana shipyard — or at least a very convincing evocation of one. The centerpiece is the skeletal hull of a lugger fishing boat suspended overhead, as if mid-construction. Antique shipbuilding tools cover the walls: C-clamps, saw blades, axes, and wooden mallets. Hanging lanterns cast warm light across the rough-hewn beams, and on cooler evenings, the fireplace at the far end of the room earns its keep.

Boatwright’s is the table-service restaurant for Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, one of Disney’s most atmospheric moderate resorts. The resort itself channels the spirit of the rural Antebellum South, with its winding Sassagoula River waterway, stone-cobbled courtyards, and Mississippi riverboat aesthetic. Boatwright’s sits comfortably within that world: a working-class shipyard tavern where the food is unpretentious and the portions are generous.

The food lives up to the setting. The Taste of the Bayou platter — a sprawling, shareable spread of smoked ribs, brisket, chicken, and sides — is the kind of meal that fills a table and fills a room with the smell of hickory smoke.
