Disney World guests breathed a collective sigh of relief this week as more than two dozen popular restaurants suddenly reappeared on the 2026 Disney Dining Plan. But the drama isn’t quite over yet.

According to Disney Tourist Blog, dozens of beloved dining locations have officially returned to the program after a chaotic rollout that left thousands of guests scrambling to adjust their vacation plans. The restoration comes after weeks of confusion that began in late December 2025, when over 35 restaurants mysteriously vanished from the dining plan without warning.

What Happened With the 2026 Dining Plan?

The “Great Disney Dining Plan Scare of 2026” began when guests noticed that some of their favorite restaurants were suddenly listed as “not participating” in the program. For families who had already booked their vacations with the dining plan, this created serious headaches. Imagine planning your dream Disney vacation around dining at Via Napoli or The BOATHOUSE, only to discover those credits were no longer accepted.

As Inside the Magic reported, Disney’s rollout of the 2026 dining plan “didn’t go as planned,” with the company having to “reverse course and issue corrections on multiple occasions.”

The root cause appears to have been contract negotiations between Disney and third-party restaurant operators. While Disney finalized deals with companies like Patina Restaurant Group and Landry’s, the restaurants remained off the dining plan website, creating confusion and frustration.

Which Restaurants Are Back?

The good news is that approximately 80% of the initially missing restaurants have been restored to the 2026 Disney Dining Plan. Popular locations now accepting dining plan credits again include:

EPCOT World Showcase:

  • Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria
  • Tutto Italia Ristorante
  • San Angel Inn Restaurante
  • Rose & Crown Dining Room

Disney Springs:

  • The BOATHOUSE
  • Morimoto Asia
  • Paddlefish
  • Terralina Crafted Italian
  • The Edison (dinner only)

Animal Kingdom:

  • Yak & Yeti Restaurant

Resorts:

  • Maya Grill at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

The dining plan now includes 228 restaurants on the regular plan and 118 on the Quick-Service plan, representing a significant recovery from the December confusion.

Despite the mass restoration, several high-profile restaurants remain absent from the 2026 Disney Dining Plan. As of early January 2026, these locations still show as “not participating”:

  • Space 220 at EPCOT - The immersive space-station dining experience continues to operate outside the dining plan
  • Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ at Disney Springs
  • T-REX Cafe (both locations)
  • Rainforest Cafe (both the Disney Springs and Animal Kingdom locations)
  • The Polite Pig at Disney Springs
  • Starbucks locations throughout the parks

The absence of Landry’s restaurants (T-REX and Rainforest Cafe) and Starbucks locations is particularly notable, as these are family favorites that many guests had counted on using their dining credits at.

New Restrictions to Watch Out For

Even some restaurants that returned to the dining plan came back with new limitations. Several popular spots now restrict which meal periods accept dining plan credits:

  • The Edison at Disney Springs now only accepts credits for dinner (lunch is no longer included)
  • Some returning restaurants may have similar restrictions, so we recommend checking the My Disney Experience app before making reservations

According to reports, even restaurant management was caught off guard by some of these changes. The general manager of Terralina Crafted Italian had to personally contact Disney to correct errors on the website after reading news reports about their restaurant’s status.

What This Means for Your 2026 Vacation

If you’re planning a Disney World vacation with the dining plan in 2026, here’s what you need to know:

  1. Check the App Regularly: The My Disney Experience app includes a “Dining Plan Accepted” filter that updates in real-time as contracts are finalized. Check it weekly as your vacation approaches.

  2. Free Kids’ Dining Promotion: Throughout 2026, kids ages 3-9 qualify for a free Disney Dining Plan when you book a vacation package with a Disney World Resort hotel stay and purchase dining plans for everyone ages 10 and up.

  3. Be Flexible: With some restaurants still missing and new restrictions emerging, having backup dining options is wise.

  4. Book Early: With the confusion finally clearing, popular restaurants accepting the dining plan are likely to fill up quickly.

The Bottom Line

Disney’s 2026 Dining Plan rollout has been rocky, to say the least. While we’re relieved to see most restaurants back on the program, the initial chaos and ongoing absences of some fan-favorites show that Disney still has work to do.

The fact that restaurant managers were reading about changes to their own establishments in the news rather than being informed directly by Disney suggests some serious communication breakdowns behind the scenes.

For now, guests can at least move forward with their 2026 planning knowing that most of their favorite restaurants are back on the dining plan. But we’ll be keeping a close eye on whether those missing restaurants eventually return—and whether any new surprises emerge as the year progresses.
